Feedback Loops

So, though it appears Burt is headed off to Turkey and any future collaborations will be done in the vein of Postal Service and Foreign Exchange, I have been spending massive amounts of time building feedback loops down in here in Texas the past month. Current rig has definitely given much aural pleasure, and though it is no sweet ass turntable I am pretty stoked. I would take a picture but camera is back in Tucson.(Burt's Notes: It's Cool, I added some pix for ya!) Rig setup is as follows:

I Finally Replaced my Stanton STR8-60...With a Vestax PDX-2000

One of the first peices of equipment I bought in my bout to become a "supah-producah" was a Stanton STR8-60. It was one of the first affordable direct drive turntables ($200) and it had a straight arm so it made scratching that much easier. That coupled with a Stanton 520SK DJ Craze needle made me feel like a regular Mix Master behind the Wheel o' Steel. That baby has given me 8 years of joy. I even re-soldered the power connection after getting busted loose after tons of road damage (moving, shows, etc.) I've been through 3 mixers but the STR8-60 kept kicking. Plus it has explored the grooves of hundreds of records in order to create the many "EngLebuRt Instruments."

MC Incrediburt and His New Toys

OK, so I've put the Burt Ramsey project on hold. Now I am seriously hard at work on a new project, tentatively titled "MC Incrediburt and the 8-Bit Olive." It's a throwback to 80's Hip-Hop and Electro. The project will cooincide with a new mix album that will be a classic mix of electro standards, tentatively titled "Break it to Make it!"

In other news I snaged some new toys! I recently purchased a

Jeff's Top 20 Albums of 2008

Better late than never. Or something.

01. James Blackshaw-Litany of Echoes: I can't believe this record didn't get more love this year. Beautiful from beginning to end, and just a generally great update to the Takoma guitar style. With this Blackshaw has seperated himself from Jack Rose, Cian Nugent, and other Fahey followers. Classic record in my book.

The Life & Times of Tim is pure Animated Awkwardness...

So I'm finally off the Graveyard shift, now I'm on the 1600 til midnight shift aka swings. Well until Adult Swim comes on I have to kill 5 hours watching something else. Well I saw HBO was running a "Life & Times of Tim" marathon, so I decided to give it a shot.

Frank Sinatra vs. Notorius B.I.G. - Blue Eyes Meets Bed-Stuy: Good Ol' Fashioned Lounge Hop

My man Boney hooked me up with this CD about a year ago. Well I re-found it while digging through some old boxes. I went to rip the album on my computer and had a redonkulous time trying to tag it because the album had all the wrong info printed on it. It said DJ Vlad "Brooklyn to Bedsty." Well I used the almighty google and found out that it was actually put out by DJ Cappel and Smitty and the name of the album was "Blue Eyes Meets Bed-Stuy" and seriously you have to hear this to believe how good this is. So I found it loaded up on megaupload, so snag it here and delight your eardrums, both of them.

Music My Ears Devoured: October

Where to start. First off, I realize it's been awhile since I've discussed music, but moving right along, here are some albums that have been helping me retain some sort of sanity while I work the wee hours of the morning.

The Doughnut Incident

So I bought a box (1 dozen aka 12) of Dunkin Doughnuts. Now the problem with Dunkin Doughnut's is they only taste good the day of purchase and the only way to rectify this problem is, well, you gotta man up and eat them all before they go stale. Well I went forward with this horribly bad idea and attempted to take down a dozen doughnuts. My wife captured the whole ordeal on film, and well, since I have no shame, I share my stomach's misfortune with you, internet world.
